Books & Balls for our little guy

Dylan is getting more & more into books. He'll bring one over & crawl right into your lap. Right now he seems to have 2 favorites, a "Colors" book from the library with 3 different ducks on the front, and a Bert & Ernie Dinosaur Egg book that G-ma & G-pa Boutelle gave to Brooklyn for her 1st Easter.

Still working with him to talk. Dada, Mama and now "dunk!" Think he likes basketball? He'll pick up any ball around & dunk it in their basketball hoop.

working with a spoon

He's trying! And Boy oh boy does he show a temper in frustration when it doesn't quite turn out the way he wanted! Let's just say our ol' dog Al would love to be laying under his high chair!!

Happy Easter!!

Easter bunny came early this morning! Brooklyn made it into our room around 6:30 & wanted to wait until Dylan woke before heading out to see her basket. (that girl can sometimes exhibit extreme patience/discipline). Brooklyn was most excited about her nail polish, & wanted to make easter egg fingers & toes (yellow, pink & purple). Then she decided to have a peeps for breakfast.
Dylan first pulled out his football, but kept giving a frustrated brow look when he realized it doesn't bounce. His spider man sippy cup & the dino flashlight that roars seemed to be the next best things, along with listening to the hip-hop Easter bunny Mimi gave us last year.
I had plenty of help making strawberry pancakes & sausage, & then went outside for the good 'ol Easter church clothes pictures. Dylan was more ready to run or give us a dance move pose.LOL

And then we were off to Aunt Mere & Uncle Steve's house for the annual Easter egg luncheon & egg hunt. Each age range of kids had their own section to hunt eggs in. Dylans' were filled with Gerber fruit melts, & B had a mix of hair ties, stickers, & balls. Next came the confetti eggs! The boys are always the most competive, & I certainly have to watch out for my devious husband & father-in-law! All of the girls (plus Dylan!) loved the bounce house too.
Lunch was delicious; Steve smoked Noah's bird & it turned out super juicy. Brooklyn wanted to even bring some back home. Afeter 3 hours of solid playing & eating, Dylan started walking around like a zombie! He was asleep in the car within the first few minutes.

Happy Easter from Mrs. Helen & Mr. Todd!

A new Dora hat & sandals, and for Dylan, a firetruck! (sorry buddy, your photo was super blurry!)

So, we got the call that cousin Noah shot his first turkey & it wouldn't be processed so it was a great option for "Brooklyn safe" food on Easter day! They asked if she wanted to go see the turkey & said yes, so off she went. I had to weigh the options- go see a dead turkey or do taxes. Ugh both ways, and taxes won. Apparently, she checked out the turkey for a few minutes & then was off for the playground.

I'm gonna "deaden it"

So, this was a hysterical 15 minute show. Brooklyn grabbed the big broom, and Dylan grabbed her small pink one. Dylan was trying to sweep, Brooklyn on the other hand, kept stomping the broom. When I asked her what she was doing, she said 'I'm gonna deaden it! There's a fly over here Mom!!" (Apparently, she didn't stop long enough to realize that a still fly on the ground just might already be dead. LOL) So, then she laid down on the ground, and started YELLING her Fifty Nifty United States song. When I asked her to use her inside voice, she replied "I'm gonna scare it to death!," and kept singing VERY LOUDLY! When the song, was done, she walks over to me, hands me the broom, & says proudly, "I did it!! I saved the day! There's a fly I deadened mom; you can clean it up now. Oh, and here's your broom."

Eye yie yie.

Coloring Easter Eggs

With proper precautions, she can safely still have traditional Easter fun!

New Tooth!

Dylan's top right lateral incisor just broke thru. Looks like his left one isn't too far behind. No late night screems or anything! :-)

St. Patricks Day

St. Patricks Day was fun for all of us, but separately this year. Brooklyn was chompin at the bit to head up to Dayton for her friend, Grace's birthday party. I was woke up at 5:30 this morning telling me all about how Jen painted her fingers pink and how I should LOOK at them! She told me how she played Eyeore family and babies all day, ate penguins, played piano, played in the leaves, tried to run and get the dogs, and there was a BIG, REALLY BIG butterfly with bracelets, candy and stickers in it (a pinata)!
Dylan on the other hand was very curious about his little cousin, X again! Apparently he likes to check him out, but D doesn't think that anyone should hold him, and gets a little jealous when he sees Mimi, Uncle Steve or his new buddy Jen holding another baby! lol.
Jens' dogs Dakota & Bella were there too. Brooklyn has yet to stop talking about Bella this morning, and in fact, just said we need to get a dog. Gut feeling Dylan would second that!
Sean & I on the other hand, headed in to Cincinnati for a little Irish music on Fountain Square, then over to the Duke Energy Center where cousin Hillary came up for a fencing tournament with her team! Sonya, Steve, Jenna, Sharon & Antoinette all drove up from Lexinton & all of us went over to Cinci on 6th for dinner and to watch UK game!

Brooklyn safe Playdough!!

We found a wheat free version & went to town making noodle shapes.

My little helper!

Spaghetti face guy!

READY TO CHEER ON THEIR WILDCATS!

So I see many of you continue to check in on my procrastination! LOL. Here's what's been happening over the last month!
Dylan had his 1 year check-up on 2/24/12. He was 19.63 lbs (6%), and 29.50 inches tall (32%)and 15.85 BMI. We think he eats a LOT and were very suprised he was only in the 6th percentile. Docs didn't seem too concerned either; he's a healthy boy! And he must be growing as he's now in a size 4 shoe too.
He started walking about 2 weeks after his birthday. He'll try and run down the hallway to see if he can make it to splash in the toilet before we catch him. He gets excited though & usually plops down on his bum before getting anywhere quickly.... thus far! He's mastered going up and down the stairs, dunking a basketball, and being a mama's boy; crying every stinkin time I drop him off at daycare, and sometimes when I just walk out of a room. He's hasn't expanded the vocabulary much, sticking with mama & dada, but he has added a lot of "bladder, bladder, bladder, bladder, bladder." (just say it quickly and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about!) He's developing more of a personality every day. Today it was 82 degrees, so we went for a walk. We
were heading up the driveway & two teenage girls go walkin by. No kiddin', he turned and walked down to the girls & flashed them his big smile and a "bladder, bladder, bladder." LOL, Mr. Social. His prize bedtime possession is still his little dog blanket and daytime it's a mix of balls & books- he holds the book in his left hand and dunks a ball with his right. He has 3 favorite books right now, the mini sesame street book, a library book about colors, and one about transportation vehicles. He's down to a nap & bedtime bottle only.
Brooklyn is still a chatterbox and very curious about everyday things. She takes a nap about 25% of the time, and if she doesn't sleep, she's very good about staying in her room & looking at books (or dressing up like a balerina!)She's trying to learn how to read more words and comes up with her own words to try and spell with magnet letters. When she gets frustrated, she's also very good at stomping her foot; a new expression her mommy and daddy are not excited about, and we're working it out with her. She's also trying to stay dry overnight, and thinks it's a big privledge to wear underwear to bed overnight. In fact, her cousin Quinton just turned 13 and she asked him if he's now old enough to "drive a car & wear underwear to bed!" LOL She also was invited to her first birthday party, for Izzy & Claire. She was so excited to go, pick out gifts & help wrap their presents. Since then, she's been wrapping things from around the house in a blanket, etc. and telling us she has a surprise for us, to close our eyes! She also thinks she has an "amazing magic trick." She holds both hands behind her back & you have to guess which hand she's holding something in. She switches the item from hand to hand so it only apprears when she says so. Then she tells you how she does her trick! (Not exactly a magician huh Joe or dad!)
As for the rest of the family, we had a mixed bag of events occur within a two week period. I had a trip to Columbus for work and while I was gone, Mimi & Sean both got a very bad virus. Grandpers came over to help with the kids, and he got it too. From there, it has oddly spread to 12 family members. Sadly, Seans' grandmother also passed on Feb. 27th. She of course will be greatly missed. The night we were heading out to the visitation, we decided to wait an extra 15 minutes due to a bad storm. Luckily, we did because an F4 tornado passed by ~10 minutes from our home. Sean also received a promotion at work this same week. As of now, he's one week into doing the job of two people. They will be redefining his role in the new position in the next few weeks, but until then, he is very busy and studying for his next certification as well.

Thank goodness, I have my son back!

last Sunday, Dylan started with a fever mid day, around 101. He didn't break that fever until Thursday am, & was as high as 104.2. I had taken him into the doctor Monday am thinking it was ears since he was waking so much at night & hitting his head, but they were clear, & was diagnosed with a virus & inflamed throat. We still went in on Thursday for a recheck even though the fever broke since he was still so uncomfortable. Sure enough, ear infection presented this time. Damn ears. It's amazing to me how both kids have shown signs of ear pain before the ears show sign of infection. And it certainly is bothersome that the infection can show up within hours of leaving that doctors' office. Think its about time to buy an otoscope.
Dylan's finally coming back into his own. This morning he was playing with his sesame street ball, trying to kick it & heading the ball, even when it was sitting still on the ground!! LOL. He's swirling his arms side to side with music,& wanting to play in the water every chance he can get, holding his hands out as if to wash them when he sees the kitchen sink get turned on. Tonight, he even took a few more steps; were up to 5 in a row now.

The things she says...

Two of them occurred today & need to write them before I forget.

Me: "B, You can take your nap in bed with me today, but if you keep talking, you'll need to head down the hallway to your own room & lay down. Do you understand?"
B: "Mommy, if that's how you go down the hallway, how do you go up the hallway?"

(Background) So we were looking on the web at various disney cakes, and she asks me to click on an Alice & Wonderland cake.
Me: Have you seen that movie?
B: No
Me: Well then how did you know that was Alice & Wonderland?
B: I just do. Did you watch the movie Mommy?
Me: No
B: Well, then how did you know who she was?
Brooklyn has been counting down the days till my birthday since Tuesday! She ran into our room this morning, talking in the one volume she knows, "Mommy, I'm so excited, it's your birthday!"
Me: "Me too babe, but be quite, dad & Dylan are in here & still sleeping."
B: "HUH?, what'd you say?? I'm so excited Mommy. Yeah yeah yeah!!!"

And since everyone was now awake, we headed on in the living room to start our day.

Dylan was very curious about all the phone calls today & held a 'conversation' with just about everyone! It's the first day we've put the phone to his ear & hasn't just stared at the phone or us with a puzzled look.
I also received some birthday money & Brooklyn asked if we now had enough money for her to take ballet lessons! lol. (She's been asking about taking ballet for over 4 months now.)

We played most of the day together & enjoyed my dinner of salmon & broccoli, followed by a delicious pink cake!
Overall, it was a great day.

Getting closer

Dylan is egstatic that he can now climb into B's bed all by himself! He gets up, and practices getting down feet first. We still think he's going to be our trouble climber. Sean watched him the other day push B's little black rocking chair to the side of the couch, & climb up that way. Luckily, he didn't fall over the back.
He's getting more facinated with the steps too, throwing things down thru the gate & watching them bounce, roll or do nothing but get stuck on that first step completely out of his reach.
Starting 1 week ago, I've been holding on to the back of his PJ's when we get ready for bed & have him "walk" over to Daddy to say goodnight. We're only talking from the couch to the chair here, but it's getting him used to 'walking' without me holding his hands way above his head. We've noticed its' helped him gain confidence a little more as he'll go from his music table to us about 1-2 steps away by himself. Before I know it, he'll be running down the hall!

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

So this last week, B has been very in to role playing. She wants to be the mommy & I'm her, Dylan is now my baby brother. This isn't a 1/2 hour activity for her, she will stay in role all day long & try to correct me if I get out of charactor.
The funny thing is how she uses words & phrases like Sean & I do...."Let me think about it," "did you understand me?" and calling me honey. I then gave Books some of her own medicine asking why a lot, and whining that I didn't want to take a nap, all why you could tell she was pausing & thinking about what to say next. LOL

She's also seeking out her "project books" again is curious about mazes, figuring out more than/less than, and thinking about simple addition(3+1=4, 2+3=5).

Another tooth!

Top right tooth finally broke thru last night. Thank goodness! He's had a stuffy head since Friday afternoon & orajel moments overnight. Brooklyn had a fever most of Thursday with a stuffy head too, so I'm hoping they don't pass it to one another.

Dinner tonight

at dinner, sean say to Brooklyn to eat 5 more bites and asks her to count them out loud. she counted, but didn't actually have any food on spoon bite #3. Sean called her out on it & her facial expression cannot be explained except to say she knew she was caught & was tryint not to bust out laughing.

Happy 89th Birthday Papa Obie

So today we had great weather for January & headed out to Granny/Papa Obie's for a surprise birthday party! You could tell he was really happy to have everyone there. After singing an off-key version of happy birthday, Sean, Aydan, Brooklyn & Paul headed outside. Someone gave Aydan a new jump rope & given that he doesn't stop until he's mastered it, started jumping. Sean wanted to show off that he still had skills & jumped even after jamming a toe & turning it black & blue. Books thought everyone was just silly & showed them that they don't need a rope to jump! LOL
Dylan was inside, hanging out with X, playing "snag the pacifier." He'd take it out of X's mouth, try to put it back & repeat several times. Every now & then, he'd lean over & give him a big ol drooling kiss on the forehead. We're also giving Dylan credit for taking his first step today! Yeah!! It was towards aunt Mere Mere who was holding up a shiny round christmas ornament.
Both the Cats & the Bengals were on today, but we headed out around 5 as both of our kids were about to crash. Bengals ended up losing their wildcard game.

Odd weather thus far for 2012

So today it was 64 degrees at 3pm, so we headed outside for some January fun of a wagon ride to the library for some new books. I took this picture on Tuesday. This brief snow took everyone by surprise & resulted in icy conditions that gave me a 2 hour ride home.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Mimi came over tonight for a little while so we could go out & meet up with my old college roomate for after dinner drinks. It was so much fun catching up. Hopefully, we'll be able to do this about every 2 years.

A lil belly ache

D was fussing in his bed a little longer than usual so I went in to pick him up & rock in. 10 seconds later I was covered in vomit. YUCK. Quick bath, & he was back to sleep in under a minute. Slept all the way thru the night & woke happy so I guess dinner just didn't settle well.
